She was the sweetheart of a generation. Princess Diana, heir apparent of Queen Elizabeth II, was loved by all for her stunning smile and countless acts of charity.
The Princess met her future husband, Prince Charles, when she was just 20 years of age. He was originally dating her sister, but the chemistry between Diana and Charles was undeniable. The two wed in 1981 in what can only be described as a fairytale wedding.
In November of 1981, it was announced that Diana was pregnant with the couple's first child. William Arthur Phillip Louis was born on June 21, 1982. Princess Diana took William with her on major tours of Australia and New Zealand, despite the media criticism she faced. In 1984, Diana gave birth to another son, Henry Charles Albert David. Diana dismissed a royal family nanny and chose to be completely involved in her children's lives.
Diana and Charles hit some marital troubles, mainly concerning Charles' relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles. Diana was quoted as saying, "Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded." The two divorced in 1996.
On August 31, 1997, the world was struck with horrific news. The royal princess had been killed in a car accident in Paris. Millions of people around the world watched her funeral on television.
It's sad to think that Diana is not around to see her sons grow up, or to spend time with her grandkids, Charlotte and George. But we know she is looking down on them.
In honor of the 19th anniversary of Princess Diana's death, we have put together some of our favorite pictures of the royal princess.
