She Captures A World Of Women With Atlas Of Beauty

Today is the International Day of the Girl. As we recognize the international rights of the girl, we also find ourselves thinking forward about who these girls will become. The future women of this world will be shaped by the images and identities we place upon the women around them.

In a world where beauty is so narrowly defined, a woman's worth and gender equality are still topics of debate, one young photographer is on a quest to reshape how we see ourselves, and perhaps how our daughters see us.

Rostov, Russia, The Atlas Of Beauty, Mihaela Noroc

For three years, Mihaela Noroc has been traveling the world taking beautiful portraits of average women in public places. She began the project when she was 27 years old, quitting her ordinary job in Bucharest and pouring her savings and talent into what would become a world-renowned project called The Atlas Of Beauty.

She has visited 45 countries with the sole mission to capture a moment of womanhood in the faces of women from around the world. She hopes that this project will inspire women who try to be "themselves, natural and authentic" in a world that often asks them not to.

"Through my photography I want to capture that feeling of warmth and serenity which comes from the eyes of a woman and can balance sometimes the negativity we see in the media."

Noroc hopes that the images will cause women to themselves and other women as strong, beautiful people. Perhaps, her photos will inspire us all to reach out across the invisible borders of difference and embrace one another in the spirit of acceptance.

"Many people from all around the world face discrimination just because they have a certain color, religion, ethnicity or because they are women. I think beauty is diversity and it can teach us to be more tolerant."
