Alicia Keys attended the 2016 VMAs this past weekend and did not wear makeup. That is apparently enough for people to get upset about. Alicia Keys decided earlier this year that she would no longer wear makeup. She explained in a LennyLetter that after a post-gym photo shoot she started to feel the power that came with embracing who you really are. She says of that surprise photo-op "I swear it is the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful that I have ever felt."
Flash-forward to the 2016 VMAs, and people seem to be upset that she wasn't kidding. When she arrived bare-faced, people began to criticize her for her own personal choice.
Alicia stop trying to start this no makeup trend. I'm not with it. You look worn out girl. #VMAs— KiiingKay (@KiiingKay) August 29, 2016
So many people are being so mean to poor Alicia and criticizing her choice, but luckily there are a few people who can see that she looks amazing whether or not she is wearing makeup.
The #NoMakeupMovement is not meant to be controversial, it is just meant to give people the freedom to make the choice that is best for them instead of feeling like they have to wear a bunch of makeup to fit it. Alicia doesn't mean any disrespect to those who enjoy wearing makeup, posting a photo just to make sure people know that she just wants everyone to make their own choices and not let the cranky people get you down.
Y'all, me choosing to be makeup free doesn't mean I'm anti-makeup. Do you! 😘😘 pic.twitter.com/Mg0Ug9YA9q— Alicia Keys (@aliciakeys) August 29, 2016
