Bourbon Coke Steaks With Garlic Smashed Potatoes Are What BBQ Is All About

Sometimes, all it takes is a little dash of something new to re-invent the classic family meal. Sure, nothing says North America like steak and potatoes, but this juicy bourbon and Coke sauce brings a little extra oomph to an old favorite.

Your family will love the fluffy/crispy combination of crunch and yum of these garlic smashed potatoes. This easy side dish goes perfectly well with a nice, juicy steak. These delicious golden goodies are the best of both worlds, which is perfect for picky eaters! Your family will enjoy eating these garlicy, bite-sized potatoes between mouthfuls of tasty steak.

Bourbon Coke Steaks

Ingredients:

  • 2 NY Strip Steaks
  • 1 cup Coke
  • 1/2 cup bourbon (about 2 miniatures)
  • 2 Tbsp Sriracha
  • 3 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Directions:

Combine the Coke, bourbon, Sriracha, brown sugar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce and black pepper together.

Place the steaks in a ziptop bag or bowl and pour marinade over top. Leave the steaks to marinade in the fridge for 4 hours or overnight.

When you're ready to cook the steaks, prepare grill and cook steaks 4 minutes on each side for medium rare.

Smashed Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 24 ounces Dutch yellow baby potatoes
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1 Tbsp fresh basil
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit

Lightly oil a baking sheet or coat with nonstick spray

In a large pot of boiling water, cook potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes; drain well

Place potatoes onto the baking sheet

Using a potato masher or fork, carefully smash the potatoes until flattened, but still in one piece.

Top potatoes with olive oil, garlic and basil. Place into oven and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
