Buying A Tiny Home Just Got Easier: Now You Can Order One From Amazon

If you watch any old TV shows you've probably heard the classic department store employee joke:

"We sell everything for the home here. In fact, we sell homes up on the fourth floor!"

"Did anyone order a tiny home?"Amazon

Well that old chestnut is finally a reality. Living up to their nickname of "the everything store," Amazon is now stocking tiny homes, alongside the other 480 million products offered by the online retailer. With just a few clicks, you can have an 8,000 pound home shipped directly to you.

The product is offered by the Wisconsin company MODS International, and while it's not as glamorous as other tiny homes we've featured, the 360-square-foot building offers everything you need for a happy life.

Don't judge a book by its cover...Amazon

It may not look like much from the outside - basically the company has slapped windows, an AC unit and some French doors onto a shipping container - but all the homes are fully insulated, with running water and electricity.

Never judge a book by its cover - let's take a tour inside one of these homes, then reveal how much it will cost you...

Each of the container homes costs $36,000, but by the time you add in applicable taxes it's closer to $38,000.

The container homes include more amenities than most tiny houses.Amazon

That's more affordable than some of the fanciest tiny homes and granny pods, but still nothing to sneeze at. But the spread of amenities included in the container is nicer than most models. There's a working shower and toilet, a kitchenette, bedroom and living area.

Still, you'll need to have somewhere to set down the container (it should be placed on a flat surface, like concrete) and it has to be hooked up to utilities before the plumbing and electricity will work.

The company calls these "remote homes," and they would work as tiny guest homes.Amazon

User webeditor reviewed the homes, saying that "I have personally walked through several of these "tiny home" units built by MODS and they are just like a conventional home on the inside," which sounds promising.

It definitely looks more stylish than a shipping container.Backcountry Hut Company

If you're in the market for something stylish but a bit more expensive, the Backcountry Hut Company markets prefabricated tiny homes that can be dropped anywhere by helicopter and put together like LEGO. They have a range of models, so be sure to check out their website.
