Call Her "Queen Arthur," 7 Year Old Pulls A Sword Out Of A Lake

What did you do on your summer vacations? Go camping? Head on a road trip? Pull Excalibur from a lake?

Matilda Jones did that last one, and she's only 7 years old! Jones was on vacation with her family in the United Kingdom when she decided to go wading in Dozmary Pool.

This isn't just any ordinary body of water, though. Dozmary Pool is legend to be where King Arthur returned the fabled sword Excalibur after being fatally wounded in the battle of Camlann. According to the legend, the Lady of the Lake raised her arm from the water and accepted the blade.

Matilda's dad, Paul, had recounted this legend to his daughters minutes before going wading in the pool.

"'It was a blistering hot day and Matilda asked if we could go for a paddle," Paul Jones said. "She was only waist deep when she said she could see a sword. I told her not to be silly and it was probably a bit of fencing, but when I looked down I realized it was a sword. It was just there laying flat on the bottom of the lake. The sword is 4ft long - exactly Matilda's height."

The pictures of Matilda and the sword are pretty amazing!

Matilda, who happens to share her name with Empress Matilda, heir to the English throne in the 12th century, looks like a natural with her new (or old?) weapon!

As for Matilda's dad, he's not so convinced it's the real thing.

"I don't think it's particularly old. It's probably an old film prop," Paul says.

People online were quick to recall the history involved, calling for Matilda to be Queen.

Whether it's real or not, Matilda is going to have a great time telling her friends about this at school!

Do you think she found Excalibur?
