Jessica Whelan, the 4-year-old girl who broke millions of hearts recently, has died.
Young Whelan was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that affects the nerve tissue, in September of 2015. On October 29th of this year, her dad Andy shared an image that showed the part of childhood cancer we rarely see. He described it as the "true face of cancer", which people are often so afraid to share and talk about. "It is not all about children smiling in hospital. There is real suffering," he said.
Sadly, on November 19th, Jessica Whelan passed away in what her parents have described as a moment of "both sadness and relief."
Andy Whelan confirmed his daughter's death on her Facebook page the next day in a touching post that described her last moments.
It's a heartbreaking end to a terrible story, but we know that Jessica is in a better place. And though her time on Earth physically was cut short, she will be with everyone in spirit for the rest of their lives.
Rest in peace, Jessica Whelan.
