Kudos to this couple for showing the most self-control when it comes to gifts.
Kathy and Brandon Gunn were married nine years before opening their last wedding present. It was a white box from their Aunt Alison, with a letter saying "Do not open until 1st disagreement."
In a Facebook post, Kathy admits this wasn't their first disagreement in their marriage.
"I honestly think that we both avoided turning to the box, because it would have symbolized our failure," she wrote. "To us, it would have meant that we didn't have what it takes to make our marriage work — and we're both too stubborn and determined for that...Was it really time to open the box? What if this isn't our worst fight? What if there's a worse one ahead of us and we don't have our box!"
Kathy and Brandon assumed the box held some sage piece of advice for a long and happy marriage. Finally, the couple realized that the tools for maintaining a long, healthy, and happy marriage were in fact within themselves, not some box.
The couple decided to open the "Fight Box" while trying to pick a gift for someone else's wedding. What they found inside was TOO CUTE!
The box had two wind glasses, bath supplies, and some cash.
Kathy ad Brandon each were given some money.
Kathy's says, "Go get a pizza, shrimp, or something you both like. Get a bath ready."
Brandon's says, "Go get flowers and a bottle of wine."
What a cute, inexpensive, and thoughtful gift for a newly wed couple! Kathy says the Fight Box brought them closer together.
"It somehow taught us about tolerance, understanding, compromise and patience," Kathy wrote. "Our marriage strengthened as we became best friends, partners, and teammates."
