Diana's Dying Words Revealed By The Man Who Tried To Save Her

August 31, 2017 marked the 20th anniversary of the tragic death of Princess Diana. The beloved royal was killed after the car she was travelling in crashed while attempting to escape prying paparazzi in Paris.

Many details about Diana's life and preventable accident have emerged since her passing, but there's one that little detail that was kept secret from the rest of for the last two decades - her final words.

NY Daily News

This week, one of the first responders who tried to save the people's princess after the wreck spoke out about the accident for the first time ever, revealing some of the desperate attempts to save her life.

The French firefighter, Xavier Gourmelon, spilled the beans on an appearance on Good Morning Britain .

So what were Diana's last words?

Gourmelon explained that when the rescue teams arrived at the scene of the crash they had no idea that Diana was one of the victims trapped inside the vehicle.

"Nobody knew it was her, nobody had recognized her," he said. "As I approached, I saw there was a blonde person."

According to Gourmelon, Diana was conscious when they pulled her from the vehicle and that's when she spoke her heartbreaking final words.

"She looked at me and said, 'Oh my God, what is happening?'"

"She was bit agitated and I tried to calm her down and tell her we would look after her but she fell into a coma again," he continued. "We then took her out of the car and put her on a stretcher. At that moment, the doctor said she was in cardiac arrest so we gave her CPR and after 20 seconds she regained consciousness."

Unfortunately, further attempts to resuscitate her failed and Diana was transported to the hospital where she died at 4 a.m. on Sunday, August 31, 1997.

"It was ordinary in terms of our involvement as firefighters," Gourmelon added. "But it was extraordinary because of the person involved. Otherwise, it was an accident like any other."

She was gone too soon, but her memory will always be a part of this world and her legacy continues to live on through her wonderful sons.
