Duck Dynasty Parents Share Inspiring Story About Daughter's Deformity
By Caitlin

When their youngest daughter, Mia Elaine Robertson, was born on September 12, 2003, she suffered from a birth defect that affects a little over 4,000 babies in the United States each year.

Little Mia had a very uncommon and severe form of the defect: she was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. The lip, dental ridge and palate (roof of the mouth) were each divided into three segments.

But Duck Dynasty's Jase and Missy Robertson loved their precious daughter from the moment they saw her and knew that God would guide them through this.

A condition like this makes it impossible for a baby to nurse because the cleft palate leaves an open area between the inner mouth and the inner nose. Food, in this case, beast milk, can enter into the nose and block her breathing.

When she was just 17 days old, Mia's parents sought out the very best surgeons at the International Craniofacial Institute in Dallas, Texas. She's had about seven operations and this beautiful little girl looks fabulous!

Now, she tours across America with her parents as a source of light and inspiration to other families and children who face the same challenges.

Listen to their story below and then check out the Mia Moo Fund that supports families with children who suffer the same defects as Mia did.
