Ben Ellis has taught at Chris Presbyterian Academy in Nashville since 2008. A year ago, Ellis was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive cancer. After fighting through treatment for a year, Ellis has decided to discontinue his treatment.
When school administrators found out about their colleague ending treatment, headmaster Nate Morrow got on the loud speaker and announced to the school, "we're going to go sing to Mr. Ellis."
All 400 students, plus faculty, showed up at Ellis' home to sing "Holy Spirit" by Grammy award winning Francesca Battistell. Headmaster Morrow said Ellis would often organize hymn-singing with the students. "[Ellis] said in those times he felt exceptionally close to Jesus. This is a man who loved us well and we want to go love him well. It was a spur of the moment decision."
Country music legend, Tim McGraw, caught wind of the tribute and posted the video to his Facebook page. It's since gone viral. Everyone has only positive things to say about Ellis and his students.
Here's the full video. You can hear Ellis start singing along at one point. I started ugly-crying at my desk and I'm not even ashamed of it.
