Father Teaches Daughter With Medical Condition A Lesson In Beauty

Daily Mail / All Things Cruise

We would do anything for our children, plain and simple. When they face hardship in their lives, we want to just tell them how things will eventually get better, and that they just need to be strong.

But our words don't always do enough of a job, which is why we need to sometimes step up and actually do the right thing.

One father understood this better than most, and when his daughter felt she didn't deserve to be loved because of the symptoms of her medical condition.

Riley Sylvaria is in the first grade and is like any other girl her age, except she has a rare condition called alopecia, which causes people to lose their hair from a young age.

One day, she came home from school and told her mother, Chelsea, that she doesn't love herself because she is different from her friends and looks "ugly."

When Chelsea told this to Dave, her husband, he knew exactly what he had to do.

If Riley felt that she wasn't good enough because she didn't have hair, Dave would do the one thing he could to show her that it doesn't matter what is on her head, but what is inside your heart.

So he grabbed a razor, and this is what he said.

"'You shouldn't say things like that kiddo,' he told her. 'You are a very special girl. Do you know how special you are? You're the most special girl in the whole world. Hair doesn't matter.'"

Riley couldn't believe it. She was so happy that her dad would do this for her, but it helped her realize that it's not what she looks like that matters.

"Dave wanted to talk to her about what she had said... this was the result," said Chelsea. "I love this man with all my heart."

She also mentioned that her daughter has been much happier since Dave's act of kindness. She says "Riley is currently over being upset about having no hair, minor bump in the road of life!"
