It's not everyday that a wanted man promises to turn himself in, but Michael Zaydel said he would gladly give up his freedom...on one condition.

The 21-year-old who also goes by the name "Champagne Torino" was wanted by the police in Redford, Michigan for "existing warrants," including for violating his probation stemming from DUI and assault charges. But rather than laying low, the bold fugitive had been taunting the Redford Police Department on their own Facebook page.

"You guys suck!" the criminal commented on one of their recent posts about a home invasion. Zaydel's taunts were becoming so regularly that Redford police threatened to block him from their page. Before they had the chance, the wanted man issued a challenge to the police.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! Mr. Champagne Torino has issued the RTPD a challenge. As you can see below, if we can have this...

"If you're [sic] next post gets a thousand shares I'll turn myself in along with a dozen donuts," he commented on their page, "and that's a promise. And I'll pick up every piece of litter around all your public schools let's see if you can get those shares."

"Challenge accepted!" the department replied, and their followers quickly rose to the challenge...

The department's answer to Zaydel's challenge has since been shared more than 4,000 times, and the criminal was forced to respond to their success.

Photos from the Redford Police Department Facebook page show Zaydel sticking to his promise and turning himself in this week. He even held up his end of the bet, bringing in a dozen donuts and a bagel for the police to enjoy. Although the police department has "no comment" on whether or not officers ate the sweets.

Explaining his bizarre case to a local news station, Zaydel simply said that "cops like donuts," and he felt it was right to reward them after inconveniencing the department for so long. Unfortunately for the fugitive, his honesty didn't earn him any leniency at his trial.

Zaydel pleaded guilty to his charges and was sentenced to 39 days in jail. There's no word on whether or not he'll be forced to clean up the local schools like he promised. Let this story be a warning to criminals: the police are enjoying their donuts while "Champagne Torino" eats humble pie.
