Gabourey Sidibe is not ashamed of who she is. She has worked hard to accept herself and be comfortable in her own skin, as she should! She is an amazingly talented woman and beautiful no matter what size her jeans say. However in 2015 Gabourey set a goal to lose 50lbs and she has accomplished that using a nutrition coach and a trainer. Little changes building up over time allowed her to feel a little bit better and be a little bit healthier.
Look how great she looks!
Working out for about an hour 3-4 times a week helped Gabourey jump start her weight loss and keep her muscles strong. Her trainer tailored her workout to use low-impact exercises to make sure she didn't hurt her joints and could stay motivated. She has even found little tricks and substitutes for all of her favorite snacks, like trading out candy bars for "power crunch bars" which are high in protein but low on calories.
Weight loss is not just a physical process. Half of the battle is emotional and mental. Gabourey spoke with Oprah back in 2011 and expressed how she has learned to accept herself for who she is, which has most likely had a positive impact on her weight loss attempts. Trying to lose weight because you hate yourself is a lot harder than trying to lose weight because you love yourself and want to be healthy.
"It's something I've had to work at. My first diet started when I was six years old, I've never been a small girl. One day I had to sit down with myself and decide that I loved myself no matter what my body looked like and what other people thought about my body... "I got tired of feeling bad all the time. I got tired of hating myself." .
So good job Gabourey! You look really happy with your progress and I think you look great!
