Grandmother Has Hair-Raising Way To Stop Speeding Traffic

When 64-year-old grandmother got sick of traffic speeding through her neighborhood street, she took matters into her own hands.

She is attracting attention from all over the world with her ingenious way to get traffic to slow down.

Jean Brooks from Nottingham, UK stands in her front garden watching traffic wiz by.

Then the retired grandmother pulls out a hairdryer, using it as a fake speed gun pointing it at cars as they drive past- and it seems effective!

"I have never seen so many people's brake lights go on, and all it is is a hairdryer," Brooks said.

After the death of her son-in-law, Jean began to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care by creating a cafe in the front garden of her home.

It wasn't until after she spent some time at the front of her house, that she noticed how quickly traffic was moving through the residential street.

"I have never seen so many people's brake lights go on, and all it is is a hairdryer," Brooks said.

Convinced that she is holding a speed camera, cars are slowing down when driving past her home.

"I've made my road safer for kids and I've made my grieving daughter smile. You can't put a price on that," she said.

She is hoping that her act will not only protect the community, but bring it closer together.

"We need to bring community spirit back," she said. "Back in the 50s and 60s people would do anything for anyone when we were getting over the war - and that's what we need to get back."
