Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Have Already Tasted An Unconventional Wedding Cake

Every wedding needs a wedding cake, even the royals. Of course, each couple has a different taste and vision of what they think the cake should look like. It could be as simple as a a three-tiered white cake, or as extravagant as Prince William and Kate Middleton's cake, which was monstrous.

For royal wedding lovers, they remember there were actually two cakes. The traditional wedding cake was fruitcake, as is customary in the United Kingdom. The logic is that fruitcake lasts a long time while frozen, which means the top layer of the cake can be served at the christening of their first child.

"It's a traditional cake but also quite delicate and modern," cake maker Fiona Cairns said at the time. "All the tiers will have a different theme."

But Prince William's groom's cake was a little different. His Royal Highness requested his favorite chocolate biscuit cake, with tea cookies, chocolate, and nuts.

Now, with another royal wedding quickly approaching, people are starting to wonder if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are going to stick with tradition or if they're going to break royal protocol, as they've already done many times before.

It was widely reported that the couple wanted a banana cake, as they both love "anything with banana," and also because it was the first image Markle posted after her relationship with the prince was confirmed.

The wedding isn't until May, so they have some time to decide. But as the new couple begins their duties together as soon-to-be-newlyweds, they're already sneaking in some cake tastings. It's probably safe to say, though, that the one they tasted on Thursday won't be making the cut.

Prince Harry and his fiancée were in Wales for their first official visit together, where they attended cultural performances, met with local athletes, and sampled different food and drinks. They were at Snowdonia Cheese Company in Rhyl, North Wales, when the couple was presented with a sweet, rather stinky, gift.

The company presented the newly engaged couple with a Welsh wedding cake made entirely of cheese, with a sign saying "Congratulations" on top!

"Oh my goodness. How sweet is that?" Markle said when she saw it. Both her and Harry tasted the cake, which was made of Black Bomber, an extra mature cheddar; Red Storm, a vintage Red Leicester; Beechwood, a smoked cheddar; and Green Thunder, a cheddar with garlic and herbs. This takes cheesecake to a whole new level!

"We made it for them. It's to celebrate their wedding and to offer our congratulations to them," said Simon Mercer, a director of the cheese company. "We do get asked to make wedding cakes occasionally. They are very welcome to take it away but it's unlikely."

While both seemed to enjoy the cheese, with Meghan calling it "delicious," it's unlikely that this will make the cut for the final cake. Although, with these two, you never know!
