For ten years, this anonymous prospector has been searching the Australian earth for gold and other precious metals, when he suddenly struck it rich. He discovered the gold nugget named "Friday's Joy" at the far, southern edge of Central Victoria's Golden Triangle .
"... As I began to scrape away the clay and dig deeper, I really couldn't believe my eyes - this wasn't an old piece of steel in front of me. I had just unearthed a colossal gold nugget - a once in a lifetime find! I was in total disbelief as I didn't think nuggets of this size were still around," said the prospector in an interview for Minelab.
He and his friends made a pact years ago: they would split the winnings on any large gold nuggets they find together. Well, these prospectors could be splitting as much as $190,000 USD between them. The prospector wasn't sure what to do with the 145 oz nugget, so he wrapped it in foil and stashed it in his oven for the night.
