Her Job Interview Was Cancelled Because She Asked This One Question

Everyone has a bad job interview experience. It's just the way life works.

You're late, you're nervous, you're under-qualified so you're over-selling yourself, whatever the case may be. Job interviews are awful unless you happen to luck out.

But for Taylor Byrnes, it wasn't even the interview that was bad...it's what happened before hand.

Byrnes had applied for a job with the new food delivery service, SkipTheDishes, which delivers food from all types of restaurants right to your house. The company is based in Winnipeg, Canada and Byrnes applied for a menu development job position.

After a successful phone interview, Byrnes was offered an in-person follow-up. Before she had a chance to meet the employer, Byrnes sent an email to the HR representative to ask a fairly standard question.

It may have been a tad forward to ask that question before an interview, but Taylor Byrnes was polite and non-presumptuous.

Two hours later, Byrnes received this email from HR.

Within a matter of hours, Taylor went from having a promising job interview to being without a prospect. Her simple question of how much the job paid was apparently "not in sync" with the company.

Taylor Byrnes posted her responses on Twitter and she immediately received support from people online.

Once the emails went viral, Taylor Byrnes received ANOTHER message from HR, this time seeming to try and smoothe things over. And yet still, they said asking about wages wasn't part of their company image.

SkipTheDishes co-founder Joshua Simair gave a statement about the situation.

"The email sent to Taylor was wrong and does not represent our team's approach or values. We are very disappointed in how it was handled. We do share a compensation package prior to hiring. As soon as we became aware of it on Monday, we reached out to Taylor to apologize for the email and reschedule her interview."

No word on whether or not Taylor Byrnes will take the second interview, but honestly, it doesn't seem likely.
