6-Year-Old Boy Becomes A Hero On His Birthday After Saving His Sister

The Scioto Post

Most kids look up to their hero, rather than become one.

Some kids are given the chance to go above and beyond expectations, and when they are put to the task, they've not only changed their own lives, but the lives of others.

What these kids learn the most is that real life heroes don't have to wear capes to make a difference in the world and in the lives of others.

For instance, when the home of 10-year-old Antoine Burks was engulfed in flames, all he could think about was getting his younger sister to safety.

The fire destroyed everything the family owned, but Antoine ran back into his home and rescued his six-year-old sister Trinity.

"I thought, what if something bad happens to her, it might have been my fault because I am her big brother, and I have to protect her," he told reporters.

A six-year-old boy from Circleville, Ohio showed the same bravery and quick-thinking as Antoine...on his birthday.

He received the best present he could have ever asked for.

Tyson Lewis was supposed to be celebrating his birthday with his family, but his house caught on fire.

He was at home with his mother, Jessica Harris, and younger siblings Jessalyn, 4, McKenna, 2, and Bevon, 1.

"I was on the phone with 911, and Tyson was on his cell phone calling his Dad, Grandma, and everyone else he could think of. Tyson Lewis is in Kindergarten. His phone only can call family members, and I think he called them all," said his mother.

"When I saw the flames I panicked, but my six-year-old dragged his baby sister outside. Without him, we wouldn't have gotten out as fast. I'm so grateful for his quick reactions. He helped me get everyone outside in less than two minutes," she added.

Harris couldn't be more proud and grateful for her son's bravery.

"He's so smart and had such quick reactions, I will never forget that. He's my little hero, without him things could have been a lot more difficult. His sister is the one he grabbed "“ she is the ornery one and would probably have ran away from me if I tried to grab her," said Harris. "If it wasn't for my oldest boy maybe I wouldn't have gotten everyone out in time."
