We have all fallen victim to an unwanted zit.
And I guess it's unfair to say "unwanted." They are all unwanted. But some zits just come at the worst possible time. Big meeting tomorrow? How would you like a buddy on your nose to help you out?
Popping pimples is actually terrible for your skin (though wildly satisfying.) It can cause scarring and even some pretty nasty infections.
So how are you supposed to get rid of a big zit in a hurry?
Don't worry, we've got you covered.
1. Ice, Ice Baby
The ice reduces the swelling and redness of the pimple. It also improves blood circulation which tightens the affected skin. This, in turn, removes dirt and oil.
2. Go Suck a Lemon
Okay, so don't actually suck the lemon. Use fresh lemon juice (NOT bottled stuff) and dip a cotton swab in it to rub on the affected area. Lemon juice helps the pimple dry up faster. You can also mix lemon juice with cinnamon powder and leave it on the pimple overnight.
3. Toothpaste, obviously.
This works best after you've done the ice method. Make sure you're using white toothpaste, NOT gel stuff. Leave it on your face overnight and in the morning the swelling will have gone down.
4. Steam it out
Fill a large bowl or pot with steaming water and let your face soak up that steam. It opens your pores, which helps get rid of all the oils, dirt, and bacteria caught in there. Don't actually put your face IN the water though...
5. Garlic (but not the bread kind, sorry)
Garlic is naturally antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic, and an antioxidant which is pretty ideal when it comes to zits. Cut a piece of garlic in half and rub it on your face several times a day (rinsing after each application.)
6. Baking soda (it's not just for science experiments!)
Baking soda helps exfoliate the skin, so it only makes sense this will help with zits. Make a thick paste of baking soda and water or lemon juice. Apply the paste on the affected area and let it dry for a couple minutes. Wash your face with warm water and repeat the process twice daily for quick results!
7. Cucumber: a delicious snack and also a pimple popper
Cut a couple cucumbers into big pieces and soak them in water for about an hour. Use the water to wash your face (all the nutrients have transferred to the water!)
