How to Grow Your Own Chia Pet

Remember Chia Pets? It was so much fun to watch them grow! Now you can make your own grass head at home using pantyhose, soil, and grass seeds...it's so simple!

This is an easy project that's perfect for kids to help with. They'll love watching the grass "hair" grow and can give their pets fancy haircuts!

Materials

  • Soil
  • Grass Seed
  • Pantyhose
  • Googly Eyes
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Mason Jar Lid
  • Small Elastics

Directions

To start, cut the toe end off of your pantyhose.

Fill the pantyhose with soil and top with grass seeds.

Once you have filled the pantyhose with soil and grass, tie a knot in the top of the pantyhose and dunk it in a bowl of water.

Place the damp grass head in a mason jar lid, pot, small dish or cup.

Using a glue gun, glue 2 googly eyes on your grass head.

Grab a small amount of the grass head and form a nose. Use the small elastic to keep the nose shape in place.

Place your grass head near a window and watch as the grass starts to grow! Make sure to regularly water your pets to prevent the grass from dying.
