How Tom Cruise's Injury Will Affect The Next "Mission: Impossible" Movie

We finally have the official story about Tom Cruise's dramatic injury on the set of the new Mission: Impossible movie.

Last week fans were shocked to see the 55-year-old star seem to "miss" a jump between two London rooftops and slam into a building. Cruise repeated the stunt multiple times, but was filmed limping off the set after his 4th attempt.

In the past, Cruise has done some death-defying stunts for the hit series. He scaled the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, for Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and hung onto the side of a plane during takeoff in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.

But it seems his latest stunt has gotten the best of him. Despite how it looks, Cruise was actually supposed to hit the side of the building, and the take was repeated to film the stunt from multiple angles. On the last attempt, Cruise hit the wall at a bad angle gave himself an injury that has put the movie on hiatus indefinitely.

So how is Cruise doing now, and what does this mean for the movie?

Paramount Studios says that while filming for Mission: Impossible 6 is delayed until Cruise recovers, the movie's release next summer won't be.

Cruise broke his right ankle filming the stunt, and director Christopher McQuarrie is waiting until it heals to start shooting again, but says Cruise is staying positive about the situation.

"Tom is great. He's in very good spirits. He's feeling great about the movie," he told Empire. "When I went to see him, the first thing he said when I walked in the room was, "˜dude, my ankle's broken'. Without missing a beat, I said, "˜there's a silver lining to this cloud. We just don't know what it is yet.'

Cruise has a long history of doing his own stunts, to "challenge" himself and entertain his fans, but this is the first time he seriously injured himself on set, so his attitude might change from now on.
