Hugh Jackman Reveals How He Keeps His Marriage Strong After 21 Years

It's hard to believe that true love exists in Hollywood when break-ups happen more than marriages.

But despite all the relationship drama we read about in the tabloids, there are a number of couples whose relationships have gone the distance. One such pairing is actor Hugh Jackman and his wife of more than two decades, actress Deborra-Lee Furness.

Jackman and Furness's love story started all the way back in 1995 on the set of the Australian television show Correlli. Jackman previously admitted that it was love at first sight despite their 13-year age gap.

"She was the star and I had this major crush on her," Hugh told Ellen DeGeneres in 2016. "Everyone did. The whole crew had a crush on her and I was so embarrassed by that."

Jackman told Town & Country magazine that he knew he wanted to marry Furness, but decided not to "ask her to marry me for six months," adding, "Then after four months. I thought, that's the most ridiculous rule!"

They said "I do" the following year in Melbourne. The couple started the process of building a family almost immediately, but after rounds of IVF and two miscarriages, they decided to adopt.

"We thought we'd have a kid or two biologically and then adopt," the Wolverine star told The Herald Sun. "But when we decided we'd had enough of IVF, we went ahead with adoption."

The couple now have two kids, son Oscar, 17, and daughter Ava, 12.

Aside from complications with conceiving, the couple's relationship has been tested in other ways, but they've managed to successfully make it through the "crazy ups and crazy downs" and are still going strong.

"I'm married to the greatest woman alive," Hugh gushed about his wife on Lorraine. "She's amazing. We're best friends, and we share everything. She's smart."

During his promotional tour for his latest movie, The Greatest Showman, Jackman once again opened up about his marriage and spilled the secrets to their long-lasting union.

Even after spending 21 years together as husband and wife, Jackman, 49, and Furness, 61, fall more in love with each other every day. Jackman thinks the fact that they got together before his career took off really played a big role in their strong matrimony.

"One of the great pieces of fortune in my career, it started late, but that Deb and I were already set together, a team, madly in love, like literally before it all happened," he told People. "We can kind of see all the ups and downs for what they are. Our priority is our family, and we're there for each other no matter what."

The couple previously stated that their "sense of humor" and the fact that they "never spend more than two weeks apart," has also made their marriage blissful. Jackman and Furness go on regular dates, and do as many activities as possible together.

The pair revealed that they often meditate together and it has helped them strengthen their bond.

"We meditate together," said Furness. "And sometimes we have friends over to do it, too. It's a lovely Sunday-morning thing. Everyone comes over, and then we have breakfast."

The Oscar-winning actor also told People that he owes his success to his wife as she's been his "rock" through it all.

"Even at the Oscars, I walk out, I put my hand on my heart and I always look to Deb in the audience," he said. "Straight afterwards, I will not see anybody in my dressing room until Deb's been in. Because that is my foundation, that is the rock, that is the foundation of our family, and therefore my life."

If what Jackman and Furness have isn't true love then I don't know what is.
