Iron Nun Has Nerves Of Steel And A Nike Ad That Will Inspire Us All

They call her the "Iron Nun, " but the members of her convent call her Sister Madonna Buder. Over 30 years ago,  she began running and hasn't looked back. Her motto: "The only failure is not to try."

Try she has! The Iron Nun has completed 45 Ironman triathlons in her 30-plus years of racing and she holds the record for the oldest person, male or female, to have completed the Ironman. This incredible woman of the cloth is 86 years old and doesn't let age get in the way of what she loves.

"There were a lot of times where I had to think about failures and not reaching the goal that I set for myself," she told The Gospel Herald. "Then I realized, the only failure is not to try."

Sister Buder holds the record for best finishing time in the 80 to 84-years-old category. The Ironman race consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike race and a 26.2 mile run to the finish line - she's done it all in less than 17 hours.

She was surprised to hear that she had achieved a world record and she humbly laughs at the memory of the moment she found out. She's certain that someone will break it, but for now, she's not ready to hang up her sneakers.

For her, running is how she glorifies her gift and she hopes that it will help others to discover their own higher purpose. Check her out in this hilarious and empowering commercial in the Nike: Unlimited Youth campaign. Do Your Thing, Sister!
