It was supposed to be fun and games, but then students were running for their lives

It was Senior Skip Day at a high school in Birmingham, Alabama. That meant that teenagers got to blow off some steam and have some fun. That fun turned into terror when men opened fire during a water balloon fight.

Police and paramedics were called to Huffman High School after someone started shooting into the crowd. A second person apparently returned fire, endangering students even more.

Two women were shot, and another was injured by broken glass. Thankfully no one was killed.

"Unfortunately, what started off pleasant turned into shots being fired and a couple of people being grazed by bullets,'' said Birmingham police spokesman Sean Edwards.

One victim was "grazed in the eye" and another was shot in the buttocks. Neither wound is considered life-threatening.

The reason gun fire erupted is infuriating. In addition to water balloons eggs were also being pelted. When some eggs hit a truck the driver got out and opened fire.

The parking lot of the school was littered with burst balloons, eggs and shell casings and serves as a gruesome picture of how a day of fun turned into a moment of panic.
