Joe Biden Comforts Meghan McCain Over Her Father's Cancer And It Will Melt Your Heart

Former Vice-President Joe Biden and The View co-host Meghan McCain may have different political affiliations, but when it comes to cancer, the two understand each other's emotional states perfectly.

Biden's 46-year-old son, Beau, passed away from glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain caner, in May 2015.

Now, Meghan's father, GOP Senator John McCain, is also battling stage four of the same type of cancer.

The Arizona senator and Vietnam war veteran was diagnosed with the disease this past July after he underwent surgery to remove a blood clot above his left eye.

McCain has since been continuously receiving treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation. He recently completed his first round of chemotherapy, and was even well enough to attend his daughter's last minute wedding.

Although McCain and his family have been trying to stay positive, there have been times when the ordeal proved too much for them.

Since Biden has been through a similar situation, he and Meghan shared an emotional moment on a recent episode of The View, after Meghan asked about his son's cancer diagnosis.

Biden appeared on ABC's The View to promote his new book, "Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose," and ended up comforting Meghan after she opened up about her father's fight.

"This is the hard part, bear with me, OK? I couldn't get through your book, I tried. Your son Beau had the same cancer that my father was diagnosed with six months ago," Meghan told Biden as she held back tears.

"I think about Beau almost every day and I was told -- sorry -- that this doesn't get easier, but that you cultivate the tools to work with this and to live with this. I know you and your family have been through tragedy that I couldn't conceive of -- what would you tell -- it's not about me, it's about everyone with cancer," said Meghan, who then started to cry.

Biden then switched seats with another host, so he could console Meghan.

"Look, one of the things that gave Beau courage, my word, was John (McCain)," Biden confessed. "Your dad, you may remember when you were a little kid. Your dad took care of my Beau," Biden told her while holding her hand.

Biden and Senator McCain were once political rivals, but when it comes to personal struggles, they support each other through thick and thin. Biden even called the senator "one of my best friends."

"We're like two brothers who were somehow raised by different fathers or something because of our points of view," Biden said. "Even when your dad got mad at me, said I should get the hell off the ticket, and remember what I said about your dad? I said, I know, and I mean this sincerely, I know if I picked up the phone tonight and called John McCain and said, ... 'I need your help, come,' he'd get on a plane and come. And I would for him."

Biden then reassured Meghan that there have been so many medical advances since his son died two years ago, and there's a good chance a breakthrough will help cure her dad.

"There's breakthroughs that are occurring now, there's four things that are going on, and it can happen tomorrow," he continued.. "You gotta maintain hope. There's hope. Hope -- you have to have hope."

"I swear, guys, we are gonna beat this damn disease, we really are," he added.

After the episode aired, Senator McCain himself took to Twitter to express gratitude to the Biden family.

"Thank you @JoeBiden & the entire Biden family for serving as an example & source of strength for my own family," McCain tweeted.

Unfortunately, a few hours later, he had to be hospitalized due to complications relating to his cancer treatment.

His office issued a statement reassuring the public that he is doing fine, and "looks forward to returning to work as soon as possible."

We wish him a speedy recovery.
