A 9-Year-Old girl was given an in-school suspension due to her clothing being deemed "inappropriate". Her family, specifically her Uncle Robbie Nettles feels as though they were only targeting her due to her weight. The outfit in question was a grey t-shirt with a Minnie Mouse logo on it, and apparently that is enough to get her a suspension. Nettle's asks "Does my niece's round belly offend you?"
As mentioned in the post, Nettles is disgusted by the schools priorities and how they care more about this girl's tummy being seen through a tight shirt than they do about teaching her. "It sickens me to imagine my sweet niece going to a school that cares more about her weight than what's in her mind," Nettles wrote in defense of his niece. It really does make you wonder how a school can be the only ones who are viewing this as a problem.
The post has gone viral, with almost 50k shares at the time of publishing. Comments on the post offer support for the young girl, "I think the school needs a re-check due to ignorance and belittling these babies about how they look".
"Apparently, it is acceptable to body shame a nine year old," concluded Nettles which is a heartbreaking thought because it is well known that this kind of body shaming is detrimental to young kids and can lead to self esteem issues and eating disorders. Children should be taught to be confident in who they are. If the school is worried about inappropriate
While it is possible that there is more to the story, the fact that it has spread like wildfire at least shows that many people refuse to let kids so young be made to feel ashamed of their bodies.
