Iris Grace is a 6-year-old girl with an incredible gift for watercolor painting. She is also severely autistic. Iris Grace has only just begun to speak. Although she struggles with human interaction, she has a very special companion who has opened the the world to Iris and helped her to bloom into an extraordinarily gifted artist.
When her parents brought home Thula, the Maine Coon, they didnt' expect Iris to react the way she did. Almost immediately, Iris Grace developed an affinity for the kitten and the two have been inseperable ever since. Thanks to Thula, Iris has begun to communicate in a way that she never has before.
Her mother's beautiful instagram photos show little Iris in a magical world. Her sweet daughter and Thula the cat do everything together.
Iris' parents encouraged her to paint to help with speech therapy, joint attention and turn taking. Her mother mixes cups of water and paint, then Iris chooses which ones she wants to use. Now, the Iris and Thula sit for hours painting happily.
"Her autism and incredible concentration span has created a style of painting which I have never seen in a child of her age, she has an understanding of colours and how they interact with each other and she beams with excitement and joy when I get out the paints," writes her mother.
