A little over a year ago, Miss Norma Jean Bauerschmidt's husband, Leo, died suddenly. Within the same two weeks, she was diagnosed with stage four uterine cancer.
At 90 years old, Norma was pretty realistic about her odds of surviving surgery, radiation and chemo. It would not have been pleasant and that's not how she wanted to spend her last days. She also knew that she couldn't go back to the home she shared with her husband of 67 years - there would be too many memories and she didn't want to live in the past.
Her son Tim and his wife Ramie invited her to move into their motor home with them and travel across the United States in what would become the most heartwarming story on the internet of adventure, family love and dying with dignity. Her inspiring adventure has a following of over 450,000 people on Facebook.
On September 30, 2016, Miss Norma died peacefully in her bed in the motor home, surrounded by the family she loved and the hospice nurses who cared for her. On the day of her passing, over 34,000 people left messages of condolence and support, she truly touched us all.
