Makeup is more than color and contouring. It has the power to shape the way others see us and helps us to express our truest selves, as we believe them to be.
Popular YouTube and Instagram makeup artist, Matthew Tronconi, convinced his mom to post this inspiring video/tutorial about the transforming power of makeup.
According to their videos, it's taken a lot of convincing on Matthew's part to get his mother, Joanne, online with him and speaking about the way we as a society think of beauty. For a long time, she didn't even feel comfortable answering the door without makeup on.
Although Joanne was born with the port-wine birthmark, it wasn't until she fell on some ice, 40 years later, that the other symptoms of Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome presented themselves.
Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTs) is a condition that affects the development of blood vessels, soft tissues and bones. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, this condition presents itself three ways:
- Port-wine stain - a type of birthmark that is caused by swelling of small blood vessels near the surface of the skin. People with KTS usually have a port-wine stain that covers part of one limb.
- Abnormal overgrowth of soft tissues and bones
- Vein malformations
Since posting the videos, Matthew says that he's seen a real change in his mother's self-confidence. Together, they are teaching people who feel different that they are still valid, important and worthy of love.
