The Tragedy That Haunts This Hotel Will Keep You Up At Night

Hotels are notorious for being haunted, and it is easily understandable why. They are impersonal, temporary dwellings that have seen some of the darkest moments in people's lives. Murders, suicides, and deaths in all forms have happened in the rooms of even the most unassuming hotels over the years. The Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City is no different.

Built in 1910 by oil tycoon W.B. Skirvin, it was meant to be a symbol of high class, and it definitely delivered.

It was one of the first buildings in the city to have air-conditioning, it had running ice water in all of the rooms, a ball room that could seat 500 people comfortable, and it even had imported chandeliers that cost upwards of $100,000 apiece (and that is in 1910). It was a true monument to high society.

It even became a speakeasy during the prohibition era of U.S. history.

Eventures!

It was allegedly during this time that W.B. Skirvin had an affair with one of the hotel's maids. Like most cliche stories, the maid (who still remains without a name) became pregnant and was locked into a room on the 10th floor of the hotel in order to avoid a scandal.

The story only gets darker from this point.

The unnamed maid reportedly grew depressed from being continuously locked in the room, and even remained a prisoner after the birth of her child. This type of isolation drove her insane, and according to legend, she grabbed her child and jumped out of a window. Both she and her child perished.

LOLWOT

The ghost of the maid and her child still haunt the Skirvin Hotel, and over the decades dozens of stories from staff and guests have led this to become one of the most haunted hotels in America. Former hotel staff nicknamed the ghost Effie.

The original hotel closed in 1988, but past guests routinely reported not being able to sleep through the night due to the distant sound of an infant crying. Male guests have also reported being propositioned by a female voice, or seeing a naked woman standing in the bathroom while they are showering. One man even claimed to have been sexually assaulted by an invisible presence.

The Skirvin was completely refurbished, and reopened for business in the early 2000s.

It is not just random everyday guests that have reported experiencing unexplained events. NBA teams sometimes stay in the hotel when they come to town to play the OKC Thunder. Both the New York Knicks and the Chicago Bulls have reported experiencing phenomena while attempting to sleep through the night there.

Would you be able to stay through the night in a haunted hotel?
