People Are Taking Divorce Selfies To Celebrate The End Of Their Marriages

We're all aware that the internet is home to some pretty strange trends. Year after year, we can count on social media users to come up with new trends that are mostly entertaining, but occasionally weird.

More recently, divorce selfies have been all the rage.

Couples have been taking photos of themselves before, after or during a divorce and posting them online to commemorate the end of their marriages.

These ex-lovers are not trying to romanticize divorce, they're taking these photos to show others that it can be amicable. While some of the selfies are awkward (obviously), others are downright bittersweet.

Here are 15 of our favorite divorce selfies:

So it's official... I officially became a divorced woman as of August 4th (only found out today lol). I'm lucky to have had such a mutual, friendly separation/divorce. Not all things are meant to be in life but we had a damn good run at it, with great memories along the way. (Made some awesome friends too, you know who you all are!!) Never thought life would have led me on the path I am today (being in a country on my own) but I'm both scared and excited to see what my future may hold! Here's to new beginnings! 🤞 #divorceselfie #divorcee #separation #friendlydivorce #militarydivorce #militarywifenomore #freshlydivorced #offthebandwagon #single #singlelife #whenitsnotmeanttobe #movingon #divorcedandhappy #divorcedwithahappyending #breakups #breakupsdontalwayshavetobesad #butstillbittersweet

We went to court and got divorced today, and then went out for a beer and a selfie. Totally normal, right? Seems appropriate because nothing we've ever done is normal. I'm grateful to this guy for 25 sometimes good, sometimes not-so-good, years together. We raised each other from adolescence to adulthood and then made two beautiful children we love like crazycakes. Instead of being disappointed that our choice to be together didn't last forever, we choose to accept that sometimes good things fall irreparably apart, to be thankful for the adventures we had, to look forward to the new and exciting ways we will grow as individuals and in other relationships, and to commit to a lifelong friendship and coparenting partnership-- not just because it's good for our little ones, but because it's also good for us. KB, thanks for making this day, and so many other days, easier. You will always be my family. "Your heart and my heart are very, very old friends." (Rumi) #divorceselfie

I think this is great. I don't believe that they are "encouraging or promoting divorce", but more so the healthy concept of being CIVIL HUMAN BEINGS after something like this. Yes, I get not all marriages can work like that, but if you have the choice (which let's be honest most do ..) than stop being so petty, holding grudges, and belittling the other person ESPECIALLY in front of their kids. Stop alienating the other person. Give your kids the option to grow up and not have to choose. I by no means am advocating divorce or staying in an unhealthy relationship, every single situation is different. I am happy though that these two people can show the world that there can be two consenting and civil human beings about ending a marriage and getting divorced. Good on these two. #breakthetrend #Breakthestigma #thisshouldbethenorm #yyc #divorceselfie #teamneuman #coparents #civil
