There really no such thing as a bad Christmas cookie, but these ones are definitely some of the best! A classic sugar cookie with icing piped on beautifully is so awesome, and you can even make some of them stand up using 3D little cookie pieces! More cookie to eat!
We were joined by the amazing bakers from Sweet Shop Cakes who showed us how adorable these sugar cookies could be! You can follow them all over the internet, including Facebook and Instagram if you want to keep up with what delicious treats they are cooking up next!
They made three different styles of cookies which we will show you below!
If you are going to make a Christmas cookie village, you need houses! The techniques they used are so neat! They always started by doing the outline, then would add a bunch of icing in the middle and then use a tool to spread and smooth it out.
It's interesting that you have to let it all dry, that is probably where a lot of people go wrong with their icing. Patience is very important!
By letting the icing harden in between layers, they are able to build it up and not have the colors blend together.
To make the cookies "3D", they attached a small stand on the back of the cookie, then attach it onto another cookie as a base. Best bonus of the 3D Cookie: extra cookie with more icing on it!
How cute are these little houses?
Snow Globe Cookies
One of the best parts about Christmas is the decorations, and one of the prettiest decorations is a snow globe! How do you make a snow globe better? Make it edible. There are a lot of layers of icing to make this one, starting with the background.
Once that layer was dry, they dotted in the snow.
Making the base, and adding in the decorations to the snow globe really bring it to life. They look both super cute and super delicious all at the same time!
Christmas Tree Cookie
Christmas isn't complete without a Christmas tree! If you can make it in cookie form, even better! You can use different colors of icing depending on if you want a green tree or a snow covered tree like we did.
They gave the tree some ornaments so it would be really festive! They let the first layer dry before adding them on so it wouldn't bleed.
These trees can stand on their own! By adding the little stand cookie on the back and attaching it to the other cookie base, now you can make an entire forest of cookies! That's my kind of forest!
Add them to your Christmas cookie village!
These cookies are super adorable and really yummy! Try it out for yourself!
