One of the most terrifying moments for any dog owner is the realization that your four-legged friend has disappeared. Darrell and Angela Goering had been searching for their lost, senior dog Cutter for two weeks, when their neice saw his picture on Facebook.
The 12-year-old dog had wandered 17 miles from his Indiana home before being found by Monica Bolton Friday who brought him to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport on July 30, 2016. At first, his rescuer thought he just needed a little rest and water, but after getting him home, she realized that he needed immediated medical attention.
Cutter was suffering from a serious skin infection and possible dog bites or lacerations from a run-in with a car. His wound was covered with maggots. Bolton Friday posted about finding Cutter on the animal rescue's Facebook page, "when we first found him we thought he was just tired and hungry, but when we got him to our house we knew he needed much more than just food and water and a place to lay his head. He needed vet care!!"
Cutter was brought to the trusted technicians at Iowa Vetrinary Referral Centre where his wounds were cleaned, treated and he was given fluids. Although this wandering pup now has to walk the road to recovery, Kristi Rogers, the vet technician who treated him, expects that he "will do very well."
His family is thrilled to have him back and recovering safely in the comfort of home. It took a village to bring Cutter home and social media made it possible. Darrell posted a picture of a much happier looking Cutter in a post of thanks to everyone who helped bring their boy home. "He is doing GREAT! ... He is still on pain meds and antibiotics and will finish those this weekend... We are sooo thankful to all who helped, prayed and encouraged"
