Tisha Beauchmin's neighbor Audrey made a request that would change her life forever, asking Tisha to babysit her 3 children while she went for a medical test. Audrey knew she had cancer, but the results were much worse than she feared.

The tests revealed she had advanced stomach and esophageal cancer, and doctors quickly realized that Audrey had just one week to live. In a rush to find someone who would look after her kids, Audrey asked Tisha to take care of her children once she was gone.

While Tisha and Audrey's daughters were friends, their families were never very close. Tisha agreed to take in the kids "because they're kids," but she really had a much more personal reason.

Tisha started life as an orphan, and didn't want Audrey's children to live the same painful life as her. "I had to go into a foster home and I don't want them to ever have to deal with anything I had to deal with as a child because children deserve to be children," she told Fox 5.

"They have been through too much. They deserve a loving family and a place to call home." So when Audrey died the 3 children were welcomed home alongside her own 5 children, making a family of 10 in 1 very small house.

Thankfully, there was a surprise in store for this deserving family.

While Tisha and her husband Kevin made do, the pair of casino workers didn't have enough time or money to provide for their huge family.

Their daughters were forced to share beds because they didn't have enough, 2 of the boys were forced to move into the loft, her oldest daughter was sleeping in the dining room and the Beauchmin's oldest son Chad had to sleep in a recliner.

Like the rest of the family Chad was modest about the situation, saying "I'm at work a lot so I would much rather me sleep on it before any of them sleep on it." The truth was they couldn't keep living like this, and one of the Beauchmin's neighbors knew it.

She passed their story onto Fox 5's Surprise Squad, who kept their promise to help "make the day a little brighter" for families around Las Vegas. At first, they only promised to build a new wall for the Beauchmin's, but once they were out of the house the real work began.

The Surprise Squad did build that wall, but also added new furniture, carpets and paint throughout the house. They repaired broken doors, renovated the Beauchmin's yard and provided Chad with money to find his own apartment.

But they saved the 2 biggest surprises of all for when the Beauchmin's saw their new home. Along with all the renovations they were also given a a free year's worth of groceries and a van that fits 12 people.

Tisha, obviously overwhelmed by the act of kindness, said "It's overwhelming that somebody would do this for me and my family. I didn't do anything too special. I did what anybody in my shoes would have done."
