Because 2016 wanted to end with a bang, one final reality star died on New Year's Eve.
Dan Kay, from Survivor: Gabon died mysteriously in his home. He was 40 years old.
Kay appeared on season 17 of the hit show and was extremely well educated. According to his obituary, he earned a Bachelor's Degree as well as a law degree. He had worked as a lawyer for 5 years before the long hours and stressful environment left him feeling empty. In his early 30s, Dan Kay sold all his investments and applied for Survivor.
"I had my midlife crisis early," he said at the time. "It was a big decision to change things up, but I think it'll be better for my life."
There has been no cause of death released to the public. His obituary just stated he died "unexpectedly."
Dan Kay is survived by his two young children, Reese Elizabeth and Jackson "Jax" Russell-Reid, as well as his girlfriend, Jennifer DePietro, mother, Jean-Ann, and sister, Andrea.
Part of his obituary reads:
"Although the time he had with his children was cut much too short, he leaves them with numerous memories of times filled with fun and laughter, including those enjoyed at his favorite place, Sawyer Lake in Gilmanton, NH. He was a man who truly believed, "the secret to having it all is knowing you already do".
Rest in peace, Dan Kay.
