Everyone knows what a crying baby sounds like. We've heard it at the grocery store checkout line, in crowded doctor's offices, and maybe in our own houses.

You also may have heard a parrot mimic human speech. It's marvelous!

Michael Schindlinger, assistant professor of biology at Lesley University, says that birds talk like humans for a variety of reasons. One of the biggest is "To better command the attention of a potential listener by producing sounds for which the listener already has a memory."

In other words, the sly parrots know exactly how to best attract attention from their human owners, and they will do whatever it takes.

This woman filmed her parrot making a strange noise, and it sounds eerily similar to a baby wailing. We can't even tell the difference. If you didn't have a baby, could you imagine hearing this in the middle of the night?
