The Story Behind 'Mini-Pope' Will Keep Your Faith In God Strong

Perhaps you have seen the viral photo circulating of "Mini-Pope" at the Fatima Shrine in Portugal.

It's a pretty cute shot of a tiny child dressed up as the Pope with a huge smile on his face. But what many people don't know is the miraculous story behind the photo.

Little Diego Guerreiro was born in Pinhal Novo, Portugal. He was born at 33 weeks, weighing just 3lbs 11oz.

He was in such bad shape, even Diego's mom Carla was not allowed to see him.

"They had to immediately resuscitate him and take him away to the intensive care unit," she said. "Diego had trouble breathing. None of the doctors could explain why he was struggling to breathe so much."

For 76 days, Diego was confined to the hospital where he suffered many setbacks and relied on on respiratory assistance for half his stay. One evening he was supposed to be discharged, but he suffered another major setback and was sent to intensive care. Diego's mother asked Pope Francis to intercede for her son. Carla promised that if Diego was healed, she would take Diego to the shrine when Pope Francis visited Fatima in May.

Baby Diego was well enough to visit Fatima when the Pope visited, so Carla kept her end of the bargain. She and her mother looked for sewing patterns that would be easy to make a mini-Pope outfit and they were successful in their search.

Though Diego is still having some problems, this just shows the power of prayer and faith can heal all! He is good!
