Seems like these days, no one is skinny enough, not even an Icelandic beauty queen.
The stunning Miss Iceland has quit an international beauty pageant after staff told her "to lose weight for the finals" because she had "too much fat" on her.
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir isn't just a pretty face, she is an athlete and now, a spokeswoman for body positivity. Jónsdóttir attributes the strength in her broad shoulders to her dedication to sport. She is a proud member of the Icelandic national athletics team.
After staff at the Miss Grand International attempted to shame her into skipping breakfast and consuming a diet of just salad and water, Jónsdóttir dropped the mic on the (self-proclaimed) "major international beauty pageant."
She penned the fiercest body confidence letter ever and quit the competition.
"If the owner of the contest really wants me to lose weight and doesn't like me the way I am, then he doesn't deserve to have me," she told the Iceland Monitor.
She posted her goodbye letter online and, within days, it went viral.
Not only did the world applaud her confidence and strong sense of self, but Nike invited her to represent the brand as a sports ambassador. Now that is how you celebrate a healthy, beautiful woman!
