Atlanta radio host Kristin Klingshirn and her fiancé, Bart Mattingly, made a fairly unusual announcement regarding their wedding registry.
Instead of gifts for themselves, the couple is registering for things to donate to Bert's Big Adventure (BBA), a nonprofit organization that provides an all-expenses paid five-day trip to Walt Disney World for kids with chronic and terminal illnesses, as well as their families.
The couple had been thinking about what to register for and whether they actually needed anything themselves.
"We were good, so I was like, 'How about we dedicate the registry to BBA?'" Klingshirn said. "Of course my fiancé, without hesitation, was like 'absolutely.' We went to Target and had a field day, registering for toys for kids for the upcoming Bert's Big Adventure trip."
Klingshirn and Mattingly have been together for over 10 years, and knew that they wanted to give back. But Klingshirn still wanted the fun experience of going through a store to register for items!
"I'm going to keep adding stuff," Klingshirn said. "We're going to shower these families with love, but also with lots of awesome, awesome gifts."
As of right now, there are almost 4000 gifts that have been donated to BBA. The couple did a live "box opening" party on Facebook to thank everyone for their generosity.
"Anytime a BBA kid is in the hospital, a fairy godparent will visit and bring them a toy or something to help pass the time," Klingshirn said. "They did 300 visits alone to the hospital last year, so now we have all of them covered."
