If you have a baby shower to go to and you want to prepare the cutest possible cake, look no further than this Onesie Cake. New moms will absolutely love it and you will love how easy it is to make!
It's pretty amazing what a few simple trims can do, but just a couple of cuts in the cake makes everything so much cuter!
For the cake
- White cake mix
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 3 eggs
For the buttercream icing
- 8 egg whites
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup confectioner's sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- Red food colouring
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Start by adding your white cake mix to a bowl with the water, vegetable oil and eggs. Mix until blended.
Pour cake batter into a greased 15 x 10 baking dish or any rectangular dish you have.
Bake for 30 minutes.
While it cooks, begin to prepare you icing. Add your egg whites into a standing mixer and start to beat, slowly adding in the butter.
Then add the confectioner's sugar and vanilla and beat until combined.
When you cake has cooled, cut out a semi-circle out of the top center of the cake, as well as the bottom corners.
Remove the center half circle (this is the "neck" hole) and then cut the bottom two in half.
Place the inner portion of the cut pieces up on the top so it makes little sleeves. If the base of the cake looks too long trim it up a bit.
Then you can start icing the cake with your buttercream icing!
Add some red food coloring to your buttercream icing if you want to add some pink touches (or blue for a boy, or whatever color the new mom decided on) and pipe along the outside of the cake.
Add some colorful sprinkles to the cake to finish it off.
Such a cute cake for a baby shower!
