Three Ways To Set The Table For The Holidays That Would Make Martha Stewart Proud

Setting a table is not as easy as Martha Stewart would like you to think. We aren't all wired with the knowledge of what side of the plate the knife goes on. Sometimes, those of us who don't know what we are doing could use a helpful guide to setting the table. Luckily, that is exactly what we have for you!

There are a bunch of different ways you could set the table, but we picked three of the more common options. A very basic table setting, a slightly fancier but still casual look and then a formal place setting are all laid out for you below to make it easier for you to have the perfect dinner party!

Basic Table:

  • Dinner plate
  • Service plate
  • Napkin
  • Knife
  • Fork
  • Spoon
  • Glass

Casual Table:

  • Dinner plate
  • Service plate
  • Napkin
  • Dinner Fork
  • Salad Fork
  • Knife
  • Spoon
  • Soup spoon
  • Bread Plate
  • Water glass
  • Wine glass

Formal Table:

  • Dinner plate
  • Service plate
  • Napkin
  • Salad Fork
  • Dinner Fork
  • Knife
  • Spoon
  • Bread Plate
  • Bread knife
  • Dessert Fork
  • Dessert Spoon
  • Wine glass
  • Water glass
  • Extra glass

Directions:

Basic Table:

Set the large dinner out with the smaller service plate on top. Put your napkin on the left side of the dinner plate with the fork on top.

Place the knife on the right side with the spoon. Put your glass on the top right corner of your place setting and you are ready to go!

Set out your large dinner plate with the service plate on top.

Center your napkin on the plate.

Add your forks on the left side in the order you will use them, and the knife and spoons go on the right.

Add a bread plate to the top left corner and then a wine glass and water glass to the top right.

Set out your large dinner plate with the service plate on top.

Fold your napkin into a pretty point and center it on the plate. (You could also fold it into a Christmas tree if you want we can show you how!)

Set out the salad fork and dinner fork on the left and the knife and spoon on the right.

Place your bread plate on the top left with a bread knife on top of it.

At the top center, place your dessert spoon and dessert fork.
