New Season, New Skin! Try These Easy DIY Face Masks And Get Fresh-Faced For Fall

There are so many factors that contribute to the changes in our skin's tone, texture and sensitivity. For many of us, the changing seasons bring a fluctuation in our skin's oil production. Colder winds, air conditioning or dryer temperatures indoors can leave our skin feeling dry, cracked and flaky.

As we transition into September, why not give yourself a little boost with a fall facial? These 5, simple face masks are sure to leave your skin feeling baby-smooth. Adding a home-made mask to your beauty routine is a wonderful way to pamper yourself at the end of a long week!

Set aside 10 minutes of me-time, fix yourself a warm cuppa and let these masks work their magic. Be mindful of your skin type: if you suffer from severe skin conditions, please consult your doctor before applying these masks. Some citrus juices and spices could be irritating, never apply to broken skin.

Mature Skin: Milk, Bananas & Oatmeal Face mask

This classic facial has everything! Oatmeal and milk are beauty staples that have been the foundation of beauty recipes as far back as ancient Egypt. Legend has it that Cleopatra would bathe in raw milk to maintain glorious, soft skin. You don't have to have a milk bath to get the same results.

This quick and easy mask mixes it up with bananas and oatmeal to fight off the signs of aging. Bananas and milk plump up thin skin by improving your natural collagen production and pumping it up with powerful antioxidants. Oatmeal calms irritated and overly oily skin for a smooth as silk finish.

What you need:

  • 1/2 Banana
  • 1 Tbsp Ground Oatmeal
  • 1 tablespoon Milk

How To:

  • Mash the banana to a pulp, stir in oatmeal and milk until well blended.

Apply:

  • Smooth the mask onto your skin with a facial brush or your fingers.
  • Let it dry for 15-20 minutes.
  • Wash off with a soft facecloth and warm water.

Dry Skin : Avocado & Honey Mask

Feeling flaky? Avocado provides significant protection for your skin from sun and wind damage  that leads to fine lines, wrinkles and other visible signs of aging. Avocados are packed with monounsaturated fats (good fats), Vitamine E and C which help to soften, and regenerate skin. Honey has antibacterial properties and is full of antioxidants, which slow down the aging process and reduce breakouts.

What you need:

  • 1/2 Small, Ripe Avocado
  • 1/2 tbsp Honey

How To:

  • Mash the avocado until smooth and creamy
  • Warm the honey
  • Add honey to avocado mixture, stir until well blended

Apply:

  • Smooth onto your skin with fingertips or a makeup brush
  • Let dry for 15-20 minutes or longer
  • Wash off with a soft cloth and warm water

Blemish-Prone Skin: Lemon, Honey & Egg White Mask

Adult acne is a thing and it's annoying, but mix up this simple homemade mask and you'll be zapping those zits faster than you can say smooth skin! Egg whites and lemon act as a mild astringent that tones the skin while and reduce discoloration.

What you need:

  • 1 Egg white
  • 1 tsp. Fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. honey

How To:

  • In a mixing bowl, blend up egg white and lemon juice until frothy
  • Add honey and stir well

Apply:

  • Wash your face with warm water
  • Smooth the mixture onto your skin with fingertips or a makeup brush
  • Let dry for 10-15 minutes
  • Wash off with soft cloth and warm water


Sensitive Skin: Raw Honey & Avocado Mask

Avocado has long been used in skin healing remedies. Most often used to treat sunburn - this gentle cactus plant has properties that reduce inflammation, blistering and itchiness. It is often used in treatments for eczema, rashes, dry skin and blisters.

What you need:

  • 2 tsp. raw honey
  • 1 tsp. aloe vera gel

How To:

  • Blend together honey and aloe gel until well mixed

Apply:

  • Smooth onto your skin with fingertips or a makeup brush
  • Let dry for 10-15 minutes
  • Gently wash off with warm water and face cloth

Combination Skin: Peach, Egg White & Sour Cream

Caring for combination skin can be a tricky balancing act - no two areas of the face are the same. Blending the benefits of sour cream and peaches to the astringent properties of egg whites, will help balance out your complexion.

Sour cream has the power of lactic acid that reduces fine lines, removes dead skin cells and encourages natural exfoliation. While peaches are packed with Vitamin A and C for moisturizing and protection from harmful free radicals.

What you need:

  • 1 Ripe peach
  • 1 Tbsp Sour cream
  • 1 Egg white

How To:

  • Puree peach and sour cream until smooth
  • Blend in egg white

Apply:

  • Wash face with warm water
  • Apply mask with fingertips or makeup brush
  • Let it set for 10-15 minutes
  • Wash off with soft cloth and warm water
  • Apply a moisturizer
