Your 'Precious Moments' Figurine Might Actually Be Worth Big Bucks

We all have those knick-knacks that we have collected over the years that do nothing more than sit on a shelf and accumulate dust. We might think that they are pointless, but it turns out that not all of them are just clutter.

Precious Moments first became popular in the late 70s, and by the 90s they seemed to be everywhere. We would get them for Christmas and birthdays, and anytime we would have to pick out a gift for our grandparents they were our first choice.

It turns out that one of those little figurines seems to be worth a lot more than it used to!

While the figures only cost $15 when we purchased them, there is one specific little statue that is now worth more than 15 times its original value.

Paul Burton is a spokesperson for Woolvey Fine Antiques & Collectibles and he claims that the "God Loveth A Cheerful Giver" is worth a whopping $2000 now!

Burton is the first to admit that even though they have "had valuations placed on it.. in the excess of $2000," it is unlikely that one would sell for that much. "I don't believe I have seen one actually sell for more than half of that, although they are still occasionally listed for sale in that price range," he said.

They are however, selling for hundreds of dollars! On Ebay, the "God Loveth A Cheerful Giver" figures have been selling for $188 - $250! That's still a lot more than the $15 investment.

The reason it is so expensive is probably related to the fact that it is one of the original 21 Precious Moments collectibles that were released back in 1979.

As for the rest of the collection, Burton says that there "isn't another stand-out I can think of that would be close to this price."

If you have one of these, the collectors suggest that you gently clean the dust off with a makeup brush, and to make sure that there are no chips or scratches. Apparently one small crack could make it completely worthless, so make sure you check it out thoroughly before trying to sell it.

Did you ever own any Precious Moments figures?
