Viral Photo Inspires Donations Of Over £100,000 For Orphans After Tragic Loss

A single photograph, taken hours before their father died has sparked an outpouring of love and support for three, orphaned children.

Luke, 21, Hannah, 18, and Oliver Bennet, 13, shared one of the final photographs taken of their parents on their deathbeds. The touching scene of Julie and Mike Bennet holding hands in their final hours moved more than 6,000 people to reach out and donate to the children's JustGiving page.

In 2013, father, Mike Bennet, was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. The 57-year-old cabinet maker was being cared for at home by his wife Julie, when just three years after, tragedy struck again. Julie was diagnosed with liver and kidney cancer in May, 2016.

The couple died this past week within days of each other at Merseyside hospice in North West England.

After the children shared the photograph of their final moments, more than £140,000 have been raised for them in just six days. They surpassed their original goal of £50,000 within days.

The oldest, Luke Bennet released a statement to thank well-wishers for all of their support. He wrote:

"My brother, sister and I are overwhelmed by the enormous support and generosity we have received from so many friends and well-wishers.

"Mum has appreciated all the help from close friends in supporting the family over the last three years through difficult times and it would be a huge relief to her to know this support will continue."

According to family friend, Heather Heaton Gallagher, the funds raised will go towards purchase of a new car to sustain their studies and activities, as well as helping them to continue their life at home.
