When little Cesur lost the only person who mattered in his life, the dog didn't know what to do with himself. He knew his best friend was gone, but Cesur's love and loyalty never died.
79-year-old Mehmet Ilhan was suffering from an illness that left him paralyzed. Cesur and Mehmet spent the last two years of his life with an unbreakable bond. Unfortunately, Mehmet lost the battle to his illness and passed away.
"Because of my father's paralysis, they had a different kind of connection," Mehmet's son Ali said. "When my father was in the hospital during his last days, Cesur stopped eating."
At the funeral procession, Mehmet's casket was carried from the funeral home to a local mosque for the ceremony, and Cesur insisted on leading the way. During the ceremony, Cesur sat next to Mehmet for the entire service, with his head hung low.
"Nobody could touch him until my father was taken to the grave and was buried," said Ali.
It's been five days since Mehmet was buried, but Cesur still sees him everyday. The little pup takes a journey through town every morning to sit by Mehmet's grave site for a little while.
Ali, who took custody of Cesur when Mehmet died, said he noticed Cesur would bolt through the door every morning as Ali left for work, but he never thought anything of it. Then out of curiosity, Ali followed Cesur and found he was visiting his dad every day.
"The people who work in the cemetery say the first thing he does in the morning is visit the grave of my father," said Ali.
Cesur still makes his trek every day, and it's unclear how long it will go on. But Ali says the dog won't always have to go alone.
"Cesur has always been a noble animal," said Ali. "He will live with me from now on."
