Woman Makes A Mistake With Her Lottery Numbers And It Almost Cost Them Millions

A mom got the surprise of a lifetime when she thought she won $4,000 in the lottery.

The mother-of-two decided to try her chance at Lucky Dip online and when she matched five balls and the bonus ball she thought he was taking home $4,000 just in time for the holidays.

But the 28-year-old was wrong.

"I always play Lotto online and saw the big Lotto rollover so decided to have a go. On Wednesday night, I was on my way to bed and thought I'd look at my account to see if I'd won anything," she said.

When she checked her numbers, Jenn Burston showed her husband Ian their winning hand.

"I logged in on my phone and it said I was a winner - my numbers were circled. I thought hang on a minute, I think I've won £3,000 and took my phone to go and show my husband," she said.

The pair logged onto to their tablet computer with a bigger screen and found out that Jen had read the numbers wrong.

"All my husband Ian kept saying was, 'are you sure it's your ticket?' so I tried to show him on the phone, but we were so excited and couldn't really see the amount because it was so small, so we decided to get the iPad and log on with a bigger screen," she said.

What they saw, was not what they were expecting at all. It turns out instead of taking home a $4,000 prize, they were taking home over $4 million!

"Once we realized it was £3 million neither of us knew what to do next - so I called my mum and my husband called his dad, and by this time, it must have been after 11pm," she said.

After barely sleeping that night, Burston received an email from The National Lottery confirming she was the winner.

Burston has two young children and has been married to her husband Ian for 2 and a half years. With their winnings they plan on buying a bigger home because they have started to outgrow their three-bedroom semi-detached residence.

The family has already booked a vacation to Turkey, but they plan to travel more with their winnings.

Burston just returned to work part-time as an office administrator six months ago after being off on maternity leave.

"I keep asking myself, just how do you spend that sort of money? I'm sure with £3million in the bank the knack will come for us," she said.
