It's no secret that streaming services are big business.

Streaming media has changed the way we enjoy our favorite shows, songs and movies.

Netflix has been one major player that has led the charge in the digital streaming space with their U.S. subscriber base doubling in the last 5 years.

They have recently celebrated a milestone, where they have more subscribers than the country's largest cable companies.

With 50.85 million U.S. streaming subscribers they now have some major influence on what we watch and how we watch it.

Disney now wants in on this business, so they made a move no one expected - and fans are reeling!

Disney and Netflix came to an agreement in 2012 to show some of your favorite childhood movies on the streaming service. Starting with the 2016 new releases, customers could stream Disney including Marvel, Pixar and Disneynature programming.

Until this new announcement came out yesterday.

Disney plans to remove its movies and Pixar titles according to Disney CEO Bob Iger. It's said that Disney will remain on Netflix until the end of 2018. Marvel shows like Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and The Punisher however, have not been affected by this

"U.S. Netflix members will have access to Disney films on the service through the end of 2019, including all new films that are shown theatrically through the end of 2018," the company said in a statement.

This means that Netflix should get the next 2 Stars Wars movies, but won't get the new trilogy's final installment of the series.

Disney intends to start its own streaming service in 2019 starting with the United States and then expanding globally.

"This represents a big strategic shift for the company," Iger said to CNBC. "We felt that having control of a platform we've been very impressed with after buying 33 percent of it a year ago would give us control of our destiny."

Their new platform will host about 10,000 sporting events each year, including MLB, NHL, MLS as well as collegiate sports and tennis' Grand Slam events.

This new Disney service will be the only place where views can watch new live action and animated movies produced by Disney and Pixar. This includes Toy Story 4, the Frozen sequel and the live-action Lion King movie. It will also play host to content from the Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD.
