10 Incredible Animal Rescues From Hurricane Harvey

Since Hurricane Harvey made landfall as a Category 4 on Friday in southeast Texas, thousands of people have been displaced and the flooding has caused unimaginable damages to homes.

Whenever a large scale natural disaster like Harvey occurs, we immediately think about the people living in the affected areas and their belongings, but many of us tend to forget about the animals.

Many rescue efforts including the National Guard have been focusing on getting humans to safety, but thankfully there are a few organizations and brave individuals who took it upon themselves to help as many of the region's furry residents as possible.

These are 10 incredible animal rescues from Hurricane Harvey:

1. This dog was restrained to a post and abandoned by its owner on Saturday, but the Daily Mail photographer who took this picture rescued it.

Ruaridh Connellan jumped into the water to untie the canine, which he has since named Lucky.

"I promise you, that I will hold anyone accountable that unlawfully restrains their dog in extreme weather conditions," said Roman Forest Police Chief Stephen Carlisle in a statement. "Dogs are family too."

2. Father and son cowboys went through great lengths to rescue this trapped horse.

"This is what we do," Chance says in the video. "We help livestock. We try to help people."

3. A man stayed by a hawk's side as it sought shelter in his car.

The car's owner, William Bruso, took the hawk inside his home and fed it before seeking help. Since gaining viral fame, Harvey the hurricane hawk has been taken to a local wildlife rehabilitation center.

4. This officer from a neighborhood patrol in River Oaks is pictured carrying dogs to safety.

5. Naomi Coto had no choice but to carry her dog, Simba, on her shoulders as they evacuated their home in Houston.
