5 Basic Things You Have Been Doing Wrong All Along

After having experts tell us for decades, that we should be doing this, instead of that, or never to do this, it can be hard to tell the difference between fact and fiction.

Whether the once-true How To's or Warnings were totally false to begin with or are just no longer relevant, you will be surprised at how many basic things we have been doing wrong.

How many are you guilty of?

Charging Your Phone

Somewhere along the way, we were led to believe that you need to let your phone run out of battery before charging it up again. It was said that it was supposed to be better for the battery.

In fact today's lithium-ion batteries don't suffer at all when you charge them at 50% power, or any other level for that matter. Go ahead charge your phone when it's convenient.

Holding the Steering Wheel

When learning to drive, we were always told to keep our hands at "10 and 2" when in fact that is probably one of the most dangerous place to position your hands if you're in an accident.

There are many basic tasks we take on in our daily life that we assume we're doing correctly because that's how we've always been doing it. Just because it's muscle memory doesn't mean it's right.

These basic things are done wrong in the kitchen as well as the bathroom.

Using Bobby Pins

Get ready for this one, because it will blow your mind. The smooth side is supposed to be on top and the ridges should face inward.

Good Housekeeping

The ridges provide better grip, plus the smoother side looks better, right?

Making Pasta

So after you cook your noodles, you rinse them off in cold water to "stop them from cooking". That's the worst thing you can do for your dinner!

By rinsing you noodles after you've cooked them you are removing the nice starch coating that makes your sauce really stick to them.

Plunging the Toilet

Close your eyes and picture a toilet plunger. Is it a stick with a rubber red cup?

That's not a toilet plunger, that's a sink plunger. Toilet plungers are typically black and have a bell-like underside that is designed to adhere to the hole in the toilet.
